The Historic Preservation League of Oregon is pleased to present a very special tour of Mid-Century Modern homes in the Bohmann Park neighborhood, Portland.
About the neighborhood:
The Bohmann Park tract in the Garden Home district comprises the largest development of contiguous Rummer Homes ever concentrated in one neighborhood. This neighborhood of 63 mid century modern homes on four streets is unique. Originally built in the mid to late 1960s, the neighborhood is enjoying a period of revitalization as welcome attention is paid to these gems.
Robert Rummer built nearly 750 homes in the Portland area between 1959 and 1975. "Rummer houses are currently undergoing a resurgence of popularity as Mid-Century Modern architecture is becoming more and more appreciated for its elegant proportions, use of natural materials, and strong connection to the outdoors." according to Jack Bookwalter from his article Rummers in Oregon: A Builder's Legacy of Mid-Century Modern Homes.
Saturday, June 2, 10am - 4pm
The tour includes entry to at least eight Rummer homes including the home that Mr. Rummer built for himself. The homes range from the very original with little changed to homes that have been remodeled with respect to the original design.
Mr. Rummer and many of the enthusiastic homeowners will be present to answer tour-goers' questions.
The Mid-Century Marvelous House Tour benefits the preservation programs of the HPLO.
